The Glory of the Millennium Dome
Date:2015.5.20 Hit:6920
The Millennium Dome, located on the Greenwich Peninsula on the Thames River in East London, is a landmark building built by the British government to meet the 21st century. This project was originally only considered temporary. After study, it is of great value either from the revival of the surrounding urban areas or the long-term investment in construction and transportation infrastructure. After the Labour Party government came into power in 1997, it decided to build a large-scale comprehensive exhibition building covering 73 hectares with a total cost of 1.25 billion US dollars. It includes a series of exhibition and performance venues, as well as shopping malls, restaurants, bars and so on. It was unveiled on December 31, 1999. The bend has a diameter of 320m and a circumference of more than 1000m. Twelve masts penetrate the roof up to 100m. The roof is made of spherical tension membrane. The diaphragm is supported on 72 radial cables with a cross section of 2 x φ 32. These cables are supported by masts through cable-stayed cables and tie cables with a spacing of 25 M. The suspension and tie cables play a stabilizing role on the mast at the same time. In addition, a four-ring cable traveling frame is provided to connect the steel cables into a network. The mast is shuttle-shaped. It is welded into a lattice by longitudinal circular steel pipe and transverse square steel. The mast is arranged along the circumference of 200 m in diameter and is supported on a quadrangular conical base composed of four bars. Some thin cables are drawn from the base 10 meters high, so that they do not hinder the exhibition.
